UI/UX Design — 2022

Project Brief

For this assignment, we are given the mission to create and design a mobile application through Adobe XD that gives a human-centered response to emergency response. The app must provide some type of response to emergency services that help with non-life-threatening issues.

Project Proposal

Minority communities often suffer from poor mental health due to cultural stigma and lack of access to mental health care services. Due to the disbelief of mental health issues in many cultures, many minorities often disregard their health due to lack of knowledge and education from mental health as well. For example, Mental Health America has found data on minority groups, stating Native Americans/Alaskan Natives that have a mental illness is 23%, African Americans with Mental Illness 17%, and even individuals who Identify as LGBTQIA+ with Mental Illness 37%. With just some of the data shown, it does not illustrate the immense amount of mental health issues minorities are suffering from. Without the right resources and positive stigma in these communities, mental health will be discredited and disregarded by the majority in the community. This change can help advocate not only bettering individuals but educating them as well. Minority groups in America need a way to access mental health resources and information so that they can receive the help and guidance that they need appropriately. Since the world is quickly evolving with technology, an app can be made to find help and discover the resources within their area. Creating this app can help minorities and other people find a convenient, accessible, and affordable solution to mental health services and understand more about what mental health is. Also, with the occurring pandemic and other circumstances for people, there will be online services, such as therapy sessions. These sessions will be in many formats like messaging, video calls, and normal calls.

Design Research

When creating the designs, I thought about the cons of the similar apps that I was looking at. I wanted the app to be easy to use and accessible for people in need, specifically minorities. I wanted the app to be custom to the user and individualized so that not one person would feel singled out. Each option and button will be self-explanatory and the page will also be easy to use.
